OPS Exhibition at the SOFO Museum, Woodstock

Oxford Photographic Society (OPS) was formed in 1889 and is one of the oldest photographic groups in the country. Our mission today is to offer a platform to all those with an interest in photography, whether they are hobbyist or a professional photographer, to improve their skills, make friends and show their work. This year each member was invited to submit an image. This exhibition showcases that work.

Although each member has his or her own story and the dawn of digital photography with its ever cheaper SLR cameras, high-quality iPhones and wide range of editing software has made high standards more accessible, the enthusiasm to achieve that special image remains the same.

In this exhibition we leave it to the viewer to decide if those special images can be equally created by a modern device, used in fully automatic mode, in the hands of someone with an eye for composition; or if the technical advances of the digital camera, combined with the old fashioned skill of a photographer who has taken time to select a specific lens, aperture, exposure time, ISO setting and manual focus point, remain relevant.

OPS meets every Tuesday evening from September to June at Oxford Silver Band Hall in Temple Road, OX4 2EZ. New members always welcome.
