Dogsonality – a guide to creative dog photography by Elke Vogelsang @ ZOOM
Jan 19 @ 19:15 – 21:30

Elke Vogelsang will describe how she managed to change her life for the better and now spends her time with what she loves: dogs and photography. Elke is a professional dog photographer and will explain how she managed to turn her camera shy dog into a supermodel and how she makes sure all dogs enjoy being in front of her camera.

Learn the basics of dog photography, like shooting portraits and dogs in action, and get to know ways to take your dog photography to the next level and integrate creative ideas.

Elke has a “model” database of more than 100 dogs and cats and offers commercial and editorial pet photography on a commissioned basis.  Her commercial clients include Mars, Petcare (Pedigree), Fujifilm, Terra Canis, Medion, Fluff&Tuff and many more.

Her photography has appeared on US and German television  and has been published in books, newspapers, and magazines globally, including the likes of National Geographic, The Sunday Times Magazine, Die Zeit and The Daily Telegraph. In addition to this, her work has been displayed in galleries in London, Paris, Lisbon, San Anselmo, and Singapore.

Elke has kindly offered to talk to us without a fee but would like us to make a donation to a local pet sanctuary or rescue service.  If you have any association with a suitable organisation, let me know and we will consider it.

Presentation – It’s All in the Mind – by Ken Scott @ ZOOM
Jan 26 @ 19:15 – 21:30

It’s all in the Mind – Ken Scott

ARPS, MBPsS, BSc (Hons) Psych

An introduction to photopsychology – how our minds and social environments shape how we see, think, feel and behave as photographers.

What is it that influences us to see what we see (or don’t see) and to like what we like?  What is the effect of compositions and colours?  How are you responding to facial expression and body language?  How do our minds and our social environments influence how we see, think, feel and behave as photographers?

The trouble is, we give everything a label. It is how we understand the world. What happens if we take the labels away? If we go back to the fundamentals of seeing?

This presentation goes where nobody else goes. We will take seeing back to the raw elements of contrast and light. We will explore the basics of visual cognition that enable us to make sense of the world around us. We will look at lines, colours, expression and emotion. We will celebrate how we see uniquely.

Let us explore photography under the surface. Let us better understand our responses to images and the things we see.

The “Rules” of Photography – Damon Guy @ ZOOM

DAMON GUY

Learn more about ‘Composition’

When when you line up a shot, angle, height and direction are composition decisions. They are part of the idea behind what to include and exclude. Learning to control these decisions helps you to better set up your shots and improve your photography.

In photography composition is the arrangement of parts of a scene to form a particular visual outcome. Composition can also be about picking a viewpoint to form a pleasing visual outcome. In practical terms, the  photographertends to use both “arrangement” and “choice of viewpoint”.

Damon Guy is a writer-photographer and editor of the https://www.photokonnexion.com/ website.

He has run some major websites, a computing department and a digital image library. He started out as a trained teacher and now runs training for digital photographers.
