We are delighted to welcome back acclaimed landscape photographer Paul Mitchel with his inspiring talk, “Fear of Flying”.

Paul explores why photographing closer to home can be every bit as rewarding as travelling further afield, revealing the creative possibilities hidden within familiar landscapes. Through his captivating images and personal experiences, he encourages us to see our surroundings with fresh eyes and discover new inspiration in everyday places. Exploring the influence of seasons, weather and light, Paul demonstrates how patience, observation and curiosity can transform ordinary locations into memorable images.

Paul’s own photographic journey began in his teens with a simple 35mm camera and developed alongside a successful 45-year career in graphic design. Today, he dedicates his time to lecturing, running workshops and creating his own acclaimed imagery. A Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, Paul’s work has received recognition in prestigious competitions including Landscape Photographer of the Year, Outdoor Photographer of the Year and International Garden Photographer of the Year. In 2023, he was awarded the RPS President’s Medal with Honorary Life Membership in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Society.
