It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of our president Vernon Brooke. Vernon had been an active member of OPS for over 60 years and will be missed.

My visits to OPS were always enriched by a chat with Vernon, - a charming man, a good photographer, and a big loss to your Society.

It’s a bit of a shock to say the least and a sad for Oxford PS.

Every time you saw Vernon, he always looked to be in good spirit. It doesn't make sense.

Farewell Vernon.

Phill B

Vernon's commitment and enthusiasm for OPS and photography was constant and he greeted all newcomers with courtesy and interest. It will feel strange to start a new season without him; it is as if we have lost part of the foundations of our Society.

I thought I had been with the club a long time but 60 plus years that's some commitment to our Society I know from working with him on our History page that he has seen a lot of changes and was always enthusiastic about new advances in Photography, I will miss him and his stories.

I am very sorry to hear of Vernon's death. He has been a stalwart of the club for so long.

I will follow Shelagh's suggestion and collect on the door tonight for those who wish to contribute to a fund for him.

Vernon was the first person I ever talked to at OPS. He was always kind, always happy.
He will be missed but remembered fondly by us all.

Very sad news Shelagh. One of my colleagues is one of Vernon’s neighbours and said she saw him only a few days ago and wasn’t aware of any health problem at all.

#2 Doug 2011-05-27 13:44

All my condolences to Vernon's family

He must have been taken so quickly.
I spoke to him most nights and seemed very with it. He will be sorely missed.
